Industrial Futurism

Yea, tho I am a bleeding heart historic preservationist, I do sometimes spend some time thinking about visions of the future, and trying to figure out what they look like. This page is specifically looking at industrial futurism. A related page looks at agricultural futurism.

Futuristic Drilling Rigs in the Forest

Here’s a series I did on futuristic drilling rigs. I’m not sure what they’re drilling for.

Futuristic Oil Or Something Else Rigs

I’m not sure what’s going on with these, either, but this series was particularly fun. One of the challenges of making these renderings was coming up with something that looked photorealistic but also futuristic. Midjourney can sometimes struggle with prompts that ask it to do things that conflict with each other, but the struggle can also result in fun product– like the first one below, which is sort of a cyberpunk industrial installation of some sort. These range from images that might be almost plausible as modern-day photos to bizarre, weird, utterly dark, sci-fi shit.

This is a series of imagined industrial imagery, created using Midjourney. Until the United States Supreme Court comes up with some dumb and probably pro-fascist idea on how to regulate AI-generated art, the current status is that it’s not possible to copyright AI-generated art. Anyway, the point of this blurb: if you’re going to steal these, make sure you at least link to The Handbuilt City.
