On my recent Great Midwestern road trip, I stopped in RAYGUN in Des Moines to do a Matterport scan– and to immerse myself in a uniquely Pan-Midwesternist breed of snark that the homegrown t-shirt company has championed over the past decade-and-a-half-ish since its founding. The store occupies a large portion of a boxy, modern building at the southeast corner of Grand and 5th in Des Moines’ East Village neighborhood, just a few blocks from the Iowa State Capitol where terrible things happen.
